I have a riverbottom in central Illinios. A couple weeks ago riding around the edge of it on a 4 wheeler I noticed a small tree about 3 foot from the river bank had been chewed off about 12 inches high. Tree was gone and no sign of it in the river. Yesterday I went around it again and noticed 10 or 12 trees within 100 yds of the first one that are all gone. Looking up and down the river couldnt see anything. Would any other animal do this?
This is a mile from the nearest road. All the trees were 2 or 3 inches in diameter and all chewed off 12 inches or so high.
