Yes, but it is a big job. I have seen the oil pump replaced without taking the pan all the way off just drop it down and work between the pan and the engine. I don't recall exactly which engines I saw it done on. I have replaced several pan gaskets on Fords without taking the pan off, just drop it down and then snake the new gasket in place and tie it to the pan through the bolt holes with light string.
