Subject: Re: Struts for a Case Magnum Hood

Nagambie
A local engineering shop near me in Australia has access to good quality struts (possibly was the same brand as the originals). Last year they got me a pair for a 7230 for about A$120/pair. From memory, Case wanted something like $300 each or some ridiculous figure.
When ordering, measure the closed and open lengths from pin to pin. Also quote the pressure rating of the original struts that will be printed on the strut barrel. eg 180Nm or some other number. The higher the number, the stronger the strut.
When installing, always place the rod end lower than the barrel. This stops the seal from drying out and causing premature strut failure.
