I had two wonderful aunts that way. Great people, never got married, never saw them in a relationship. The oldest got through college and helped all the others get through if they wanted to. Heard she wasn't paid for years during the Depression. They treated me like their own child, wonderful role models. Never figured it out and never thought about it much. I would have done anything for them and did but they were self sufficient.
