My new computer came with the new google toolbar preinstalled on it. So far I haven't had any problems with popups or spyware (at least that I know of). On my old computer I ran Adaware, Spywareblaster, & Spybot, all free downloads. So far I haven't seen the need to download any of the free stuff. FWIW
