With a 3406B model, there is going to be lots of people with experience. Too bad about your failure, It doesn't sound pretty. Going to be a pretty major repair. Little worried about turbo seals, maybe they leaked and it started burning oil, thus the oil level went down.
Marine guys, engines running constantly, use the "running method" of checking oil.
What might a Cat 3406 on a skid weigh?
