| My very limited knowledge of organic production says that even though two different fertilizers or pesticides may be chemically identical, one may be allowed and the other not. This is due to how the product was manufactured. For example acetic acid is sometimes used as a herbicide in organic production. Acetic acid distilled from vinegar is allowed, but acetic acid manufactured at a BP chemical plant is banned for use in organic production, even though they are chemically identical. | |
