Dad and I each have 2000 Ford Excursions with 7.3's too. His is 2wd, chipped for economy and 4" exhaust and is consistantly 20-22 mpg. Mine is 4x4 totally stock 180,000 miles and gets in the 14-16mpg range, even in winter with extended idle times keeping the kids warm. It has seen as hi as 19 on the interstate, and as poor as 10 mpg pulling a trailer into the wind on a cold day last week.

However, if you are looking for new, I don't know what to tell you, nothing new has tripped my trigger lately. When the 7.3 dies in our excursion, I'll probably stick an old 12 valve cummins in it, and drive it until the doors fall off.
