Subject: RE: pros and cons of dump wagons vs beet carts

South Western Ontario
We harvest with 2-10 ton Richardton side dumps(single axle w/20.8R38's) and one 24 ton chain cart. The chain cart is copied off of the H&S and has given us very little trouble in the last 4 seasons. This way we can hire larger custom trucks since they are not in the field and we are hauling an average of 38 tons per trip to piling ground. We use the cart system all the time, and have been able to lift when others couldn't due to the ground conditions.

One thought on the wagon style dumps would be that the cart drivers would need to be on the mark when pulling up beside the truck to dump, pretty difficult to back up and try again with a wagon style - I think.

When it is real wet we actually run all of the beets through the chain cart in order to clean the beets a bit better, the side dumps run to the harvester and back and dump on the chain cart.

Chain cart is a necessity to get a truck completely full in the shortest amount of time with no spillage.

Just my 2 cents
