Ok, I've confused myself with what should be a simple comparison -
Trying to compare price per  BTU's of various fuels ~
Natural gas - .7371¢ per therm  = 1030 btu's per cu ft
Propane -     $1.91 gal                =  2500 btu's per cu ft
Diesel -         $2.90 gal                =  138000 btu's gal
Electric -           .075¢ kwh             =  3412 btu's

What is the price of each, per btu'?

If I'm useing 5gals of Diesel per day, how much propane, natural gas and electric would be compareable?

What am I missing ?
See how many different answers we get here  ; ~ )       TIA

Don't forget to include the efficientcies of each.

NG - $7371/ therm / .93 = $.7926/therm recovered
propane - $1.94/therm / .93 = $2.10/ therm recovered
electric - $2.19/therm /1.00 = $2.19/ therm recovered
fuel - $2.10/therm/.80 = $2.62/therm recovered

I used 80% efficiency for a fuel furnace, you need a really good one to be above that number realistically.
Anyway based on the prices you gave, that is the real cost of the heat...you always have to account for the heat going up the chimney.
