Tuscarora, MD | We grow Turkeys for Pilgrim's and sell 180,000 per year. They are regular hens (about 14 to 15.5 lbs) and we are paid a base pay of 0.0577 per pound with a performance bonus that may be a plus or minus depending on how we compare to the prior 4 week growers. They are compared on such items as feed conversion, liveability, medication, etc. Basically, they average to costs of all the prior 4 week growers and if your flock cost less than the average to produce you recieve a bonus, likewise if your flock costs more you get penalized. It may amount to a fluctuation of at the most 0.01 per pound, but most of the time it is even or very close to average. We also get an "allowance" for propane. They used to pay all the propane until a few years ago. That costs us about 12,000 to 15,000 more than it did before.
I was just curious how others were paid. | |
