East Kansas, DeSoto | Our FFA group made a tour through the Dakotas during this period and dirt and sand was drifted on the main highways and we had to go around the drifts in the ditches. Grasshoppers followed. So plentiful in the sky you thought a storm was coming. Went over where we lived and ate everything up where my grandfather lived. A neighbor let him cut an elm tree every other day for his cattle to eat. Do not know how he got through the winter. Gifford
