Later book, but written by a very good writer "Farm:A Year In The Life Of An American Farmer". Richard Rhodes wrote it. Did some huge book on the making of the atomic bomb. Book follows a farm family through a year in the early 80's somewhere in Mo. I've tried to find out how the family turned out, but haven't had any luck finding someone who will admit to knowing about them.
