nw NC | Terraces in our part of the world are ridges of soil formed ( by scrape blade or can be built with moldboard plow) on the surface of a sloping field . These ridges are built across the hill side on a slight gradient . By being just off level any runoff water flows gently down the channel of the terrace to the edge of the field or to a permanent grassed waterway or a drainage ditch.
