In the past I have found public GIS data warehouses which provide the exact same imagery that Google Earth uses and have downloaded the files for no cost. Most every state has a GIS program. The downloaded images have been very helpful to use in mapping software as another layer. And the public GIS does not comes with Googles threatening copyright warnings. I agree with poster above who encourages using airplane shots.
