I would likely go with your idea as well. As long as the auger extension is built heavy enough to transmit the power required for the sweep it should work. I have a 7 1/2 h.p. motor on an 8" unload with a powersweep in a 33' bin. You probably will need more than 10 h.p. to run that length of auger with a sweep if you want to run the auger full with a standard rpm.
