Subject: RE: Reminder of Fire danger on Newer Case IH Combines!!!!

Glad you got it put out!  CNH has a problem with the brakes on those combines, what concern's me is that they know they have a problem that could have huge liability implications for them and they don't seem real concerned about doing anything to fix it.  We caught a CR 960 and a CR 9070 on fire.  You don't have to be using the brakes on a regular basis for this to happen, and we blew the transmision & brakes off every day.  Since they are using disc brakes there is no spring return, over time the calipars begin to stick and the pads run tigher than they should.  It really has more to do with harvest speed, than brake use. They used a solid rotor, and with no holes to help disappate heat the rotors get pretty warm in a hurry.  If you are running in tall residue like stripped wheat stubble you have to watch it real close as the brakes will pack with straw.....dry straw + hot brake rotor = FIRE!!   Add to that the fact that straw tends to pile on top of the transmission and you get a pretty good fire in a hurry, we had to replace the lower frame harness both times as well.
