Like badger said, its not hp its wieght. We have 155 hp mfwd long frame and wouldn't want anything less on our 3x3. Nieghbor running a 7800jd 2wd on 4x4, heard he got pushed down a hill one time, no major mishaps though. Also 3x3 straw will be about 525lbs, can't comment on 3x4 or 4x4 bale weight.
