When I had my 1440 had similiar issue (head would leak down with no visible external leak) and it was something in the valve stack. Not much help but maybe getting you in the right direction. Another thing and it is going to sound obvious but is the auto header height engaged? Could an oring have gotten cut in the rebuild process?
