Subject: RE: Is Apex worth getting ?

All indications are that third-party companies have access to everything except A/B lines. And that's a problem that we'll all put our heads together and try to address in a reasonable manner after we get through the spring. I have looked at enough data with "sample code" to be comfortable that we are seeing everything that we need... including split planter. But we just haven't been able to focus resources on reading data when writing data was so much more critical.

The good news about the GS2 integration is that the third-party companies are using the same components to read/write cards as is Apex. That is a MUCH more satisfactory solution than was the case for GS1, where we used one set of components and JDO could do an end-around.

Biases: I'm a 100% competitor against Apex. But at this point, the GS2 (and even the GS1) is the most complete hardware platform for total field recordkeeping and we are committed to helping our customers get the most from their investment. We have a long list of things that we hope they add to it, but it is still the most complete solution. Will be nice when they get through the startup bugs.
