Subject: Explain please...

Southeast Colorado
I know I'm never a big bin supporter like most on here seem to be so I'll at least throw that out there as a disclaimer. I think a lot of my thinking has to do with the area you are from. Our elevators never force us to hand the grain over at any time so you can price your commodity out whenever you want. All you do is pay .03 a bushel per month as long as you want it to sit there. When I hear stories like you guys are telling me I have to wonder why the pricing works the way it does. Why would the elevator give you an extra 80 cents in such a short order to store your own grain? Why wouldn't they just build BILLION bushel bins and make the money themselves? I'm sure it's a here vs. there thing but when I have stored grain in my bins in the past, half of the time, my local elevator has the best bid later anyway so all that I have netted is the .03 per bushel/month anyway. Then I have to truck the grain and wear out my equipment getting it done.
