Looks very good Eric. A surprising amount of last year's residue between the rows for having hit it with a disk. You must just knock the stalks down.

Year three is usually the time you start to really see the benefits of continuous corn. I bet next year there will be a bit less residue left between the rows. But that residue really must have held the moisture in if this is dryland.

what are your plans for next year in this field? Staying with corn on corn? By what we see it looks like you have this figured out. Good job.

How do you put your fertilizer down in your system?

Thanks Jim!

Our corn has a lot of residue because it gets so tall in the river bottoms, but also like you said we just knocked the stalks down with the disk probably running 2in, just enough to chop the stalks a little. We plan on keeping this field on continuous corn for a long time, possibly even 100% no-till! The field is surrounded by woods so it is just a feeding ground for deer, the last time that we had beans in it one end of the field was making 10bph where the deer ate the beans off and the other end making 60bph.

This field had about 180 units of N pre-plant of urea, another 5units with the starter in the planter and around another 35 units side dressed. Last fall it had P&K put on it but i am not exactly sure how much.
