East Central MN | Thanks for the post. We've typically seeded ours in the spring with wheat as a cover crop old school style but others in our area have gone to direct seeding. I just haven't been real comfortable with that yet (trouble with stand establishment and weed pressure) besides, we can use the wheat and straw. The last two years we've been caught where the wheat hasn't been ready or the weather isn't cooperating and you miss the window to straight cut and then swath because the alfalfa shoots through, then, you guessed it, rain comes. I like your method of taking the grain off and seeding into the stubble. Keep us updated on how the stand takes. Thanks | |
