Viewing a thread - soil temps 1(pic)

Here is an update of the corn that was planted on May 5th into spring wheat stubble. The first and second photos is of the corn planted into a bare spot, it is 81 inches tall has 18 leaf collars,has tasseled and the milk line is 1/4 down the kernel and has acumulated 1954 gdd`s. The third and fourth photos shows the corn planted into a 10 inch wide strip cleared of residue it has reached a height of 94 inches, has 18 leaf collars, milk line 1/4 down the kernel has acumulated 1908 gdd`s. I have switched to using the air temperature to figuring gdd`s starting on 6/24 on this test. The fifth and sixth pictures shows an ear from a plant that was planted into a 10 inch wide cleared strip that is a different hybrid, the milk line is 1/4 of way down on the kernels. By the way the sensor at 6 ft is in the corn canopy. The depth of the kernels from tip to crown is .5 inches. forgot to meaure width.
