Regina/ 14 miles South of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan | We're with OCIA - been with them since we started in organics in 1997...Cost is higher than others around us (Pro-Cert is probably the biggest, Eco-Cert is growing fastest)... Have never found the differences in the cost of certification to be worth the switch, partly because:
1. When we started out in OCIA there was significant chapter support for new members learning - felt that we had an obligation to stay in the organization to try and pay that back....
2. Always felt that OCIA is a farmer owned organization - some of this is getting a little blurred - but still feel we have an obligation to stay with them....
Don't foresee leaving organic ag - the price and markets for HR spring wheat have collapsed somewhat - & the spring was not organic-friendly in our neck of the woods - but for our small dryland operation it seems the best way to go...
