sc nebraska | We put up a leg last fall and it was up in time to fill 1 bin (100k bu). The corn in that bin was terribly dirty and bridged up right away. I had the gate wide open and got about half of the bin unloaded at a trickle, then read about the tennis ball trick and it worked like a charm.
I don't know if it is fines or dust that made the grain hard. There were pockets in the bin that didn't get any air.
I need to add something on to fix this problem. I have seen a couple options that go on top of the distributor, but they put the distributor to close to the top of the leg for that style to work. They are going to add a retarder to the steepest downspout going to the drying bin to see if that helps with the fines. I am having them cut holes in the tops to hopefully blow out some dust. The guy that put this up is trying to design something to screen the grain in the downspout. Is there something like this, or is it even possible? 120', 7000 bu/hr leg.
