Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
It sounds like you have a problem with the sensor or the magnets located on the turbine.

I have seen instances where the reading was high and erratic where upon careful inspection I found that one of the magnets had become cracked. Another possibility is a partially broken wire leading to the transducer somewhere along the path to the console.

The flowmeter works by shorting the signal wire to ground and then releasing it allowing the voltage to return to 5V. This creates an electrical pulse. The console is watching for these pulses and counts them.

If there is a partial short in the wiring causing the signal to get grounded inapporpriately no damage is done but extra pulses are created which results in inaccurate readings.

I'm curious as to why you have repeated problems with metal shavings.
