It's pretty hard to get anything done if you refuse to spend money on anything that won't be worth anything in ten years.

 

Resale value on diesel fuel is pretty poor....but if we didn't buy several thousand dollars worth of it every year, we wouldn't make much money.



I agree completely. My argument however, was not WHETHER or not to buy a mower, but if he should or should not get rid of a usable, non-depreciating asset in order to do it.

If he couldn't pay for the mower WITHOUT giving up his IH loader tractor, he needed to buy something he COULD afford.

Look at it like this. Trade the tractor for the mower even. Using the money you save would not replace the tractor by the time the mower wears out.
