Subject: Cataloging

Redwood Falls, MN
I catalog my photos by date and event. I have a separate folder for each event even if 2 fall on the same date. I initially dump my camera card to a folder named "unsorted". I then use the IrfanView Thumbnails program to view and move them to the correct folders. It has an option to move or to copy to a new folder. Within either it has 10 folders you can save links to copy or move to. Quite handy.
My naming pattern goes like this "07-03-22 kids birthday". This way when I sort by name they come up chronologically. I have a separate folder for each year.
It takes too much time for me to tag individual photos with key words.
I have pictures back to 1999 sorted this way.
Backups are made to external HD as well as DVD's. I don't delete the camera card until the HD is backed up.
