just a tish NE of central ND | The ears appear on the tops of the corn plant and they seem to be attached to "tillers" of the corn plants. The corn branches out and there are several stalks. There ore regualr normanl looking cobs on the corn too. Teh corn plants seem to ahve leaves in a normal fashion. As far as too much moisture... I highly doubt that to be the cause because it is dryland corn on lighter ground that was newly broken CRP ground this spring. You couldnt over water those high grounds with north dakota type rains (C ND) with our rain we had if you tried. It looks goofy as heck in those feilds. Im sure it will be a great place for the blackbirds to sit and feed.
If corn used to grow the cobs on the top in the beguining of time, it would be interesting to know how they got bred/crossbred to move down on the plant. |
