nc IA | This will be my third fall with my 4840, original motor, dyno'd 215 when I got it and I just finished doing the head - valves and injectors over last winter. 9K plus hours. I ran a ol IH 14 5 shank ripper on a yetter coulter cart the first winter - was frozen so didn't get a good grip. last fall was late and freezing up as well so this fall will be the first "true" test of it. Last year I bought a 2500 DMI inline 5 shank ripper with a fit all roller behind it - going to have to disk stalks seperately, but in trade I get a good ripper on the 3pt where I can benefit from weight transfer and put the power to the ground a lot better then I can with a pull type. It would handle a DMI 527 very well, but around here quite a few are finding they arn't handling the residue single pass enough such as a 530 can. (shank size differences and also disk blade size differences).
Depends alot on your location and tillage goals / follow up passes. I can get by with a little more residue on the ground in the fall since I run a finisher in the spring vs a straight field cultivator.
18.4x42's, 900# on each side in the rear and for this year 20 weights up front vs the 16 I had last year. (quite heavy as you can see if you follow the links) If you're looking to go the chisle route a neighbor has a couple year old krause, looks like a very well built unit.
Also - upgrade your inner fender flood lights and rear fender lights to HID using the kits mentioned on here..... you won't believe the difference!!!
Oh.... best keep the fuel truck handy :) Mine is quite thirsty, records from the two falls prior in frozen ground show 1.5 to 1.6 gallons / acre

Note from videos - didn't disk ahead, just knife rolls on my old 863IH head, will be disking before I rip this fall. Disking this spring before field finishing sucked in so many different ways.
I am considering going to a sunflower disk/ripper/disk next summer and trading off the 4840 and the 2500, may move to a small 4wd instead.
