Subject: corn planting populations

Redfield, SD
Have all the zones set up in the field. What is the best planting population?

The yield goals range from 100 to 190 bushels. The swale areas with thick topsoil will produce 190 bushels, productive upland areas will produce 175 bushels, the eroded knobs will produce 150 bushels, the claypan areas will produce 125 to 150 bushels, and the salty areas will produce 100 bushels at best. I am thinking of varying the population from 20,000 to 32,000. 100 bushel 20,000; 125 bushel 23,000; 150 bushels 27,500, 175 bushels 30,000, and 190 bushels 32,000.

Any thoughts?
