Subject: Re: storing corn on the ground. need advice

we have a 375k outdoor flat storage in southern iowa the corn was high moisture and had to be dried and to prevent having to shut farmers off we piled about 100k in that pit and planned on drying after harvest so didnt cover. Along about christmas once harvest slowed we began to haul inside and dry and thats when the rain started and then it snowed and then we had a mess of snow and ice we were trying to dry along with the corn. You couldnt stop the dryer cuz the stuff would freeze solid in the bin had to send a guy down the silo several times to chop ice from the shoot. Makes for high utility bills. The moral of this particular story is get it down and right back up dont pull on it a little bit a week or you will have hot spots and damaged corn the dryer knocked out and smell out of ours which was good.
