He did a 120 mile route for oh 25 years or so, then about 5 years ago they combined the two rural routes for this town and added 30 miles. Really not that bad other than can't find and keep substitute carriers. Has a couple hundred boxes and all the first class comes in pre-sorted. So he is in and out of the office pretty quick. Usually done before 4pm. Unless the roads are muddy, then it may be to dark.

Oh and when they added the extra route, that put him at enough hours he gets two days off every two weeks. Sure has liked that.

His job is considered civil service and he gets all the benefits of being an employee of the USPS. But a lot of HCR routes out here are on a contract because of less boxes than miles.
