Kingston,Mi | Thought I would post some pictures of my 2010 wheat harvest. I have not grown wheat in 25 to 30 years so this is a learning experience for me, the last time I harvested my own wheat it was with a H farmall and a 66 AllCrop Combine. This time around it was the 4400D John Deere with a 213 flex head. I wanted the straw, so I moved the knife out of the chopper, reversed the vanes left to right and dropped the tailboard down as far as it would go. Windrow was 60 inches wide after these adjustments. The wheat is Hopewell Soft Red Winter wheat, planted notill at 3.5 bu. to the acre on 11/11/2009. Fertilized to recommendation this spring. Needed but did not get, a spring appliction of herbicides (weeds were lambsquaters and peppergrass). Yeild was 55 bu per acre, test wt. 56 pounds and moisture at delivery was 12.9%. Harvested after work this past week. Sorry no video or in the field action shots as this is a one man operation.
