| Wondered if any of you folks would share you're "recipes" for growing wheat. I'll tell you how I did it this year and would like any advice some of you might have.
For starters I'm in east central Iowa and planted the wheat on isolation acres. On Sep 30, 2009 we drilled 1,250,000 seeds per acre of SRWW. Seeded 1/2 to 1 inch depth. This followed a soybean crop which I disked up. In late march/early april we applied 90 units urea 6 to 8 hours ahead of a good rain. In May at flag leaf we applied Headline and some insecticide for aphids. Should have also threw in a little 2,4D but didn't. Harvested July 15 & 16 and got around 80 to 85 bu/acre @ 55 to 56 lb TW. Overall I'm happy with the results but was wondering if I could be doing more. | |
