It can really vary. I have seen 60K to 110K. Obviously those are the xtremes, but it really does vary by variety. When you get ears 20 or more around the seed tends to be smaller. 14-16 around tend to be larger. I think in good yield years I tend to use 75-85K as a guide for a range and in the years we have a hot, dry grain fill period I tend to use 85-100K. In Texas you probably have hotter and dryer grain fill periods so I would think you might have smaller kernels than someone in the upper midwest. The best thing I have found is take some seed cpunts once you have dried corn each year and start to get a handle on each years average and then you can get better going forward.
