600 to 850 amps is cold cranking amps. Not energy amps. But the ampere hour rating is probably 90 to 120 per battery, so at 30 amps it will take 6 to 8 hours and if the current tapers like it should it will take longer. A good battery should survive being run down, but many won't.

The alternator running hot is not good for the alternator.

The battery rating is ampere hours, e.g. amps times hours. The charger is rated only at amps, and takes hours to accumulate ampere hours and the battery efficiency is less than 100% so it takes more charging time to put in the ampere hours.
