West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge | I just finished a road trip from West Central Alberta to the south east corner of Saskatchewan and back. About 1400 mile round trip. Every crop that I did see was weeks behind where they should be at this time of year, and there weren't many to see in most areas. In the hilly country, I would think that the high land will more than make up for the flooded out lowland, but even a lot of the hills are not seeded, and they are still seeding. The majority of the flat ground hasn't got a hope, anything that is seeded is yellow, patchy and still full of water. But that is the minority, I would say there were more flat acres unseeded than seeded. The province (Saskatchewan) as a whole is 76% seeded, with areas to the north and east being as little as 10% seeded, I didn't see the worst of it. On a positive note, they have fantastic hay crops, and I've never seen it so green, unfortunately, there are very few cows left after the drought last year. |
