The thicker you plant something, the taller it grows. Good for forage, not so good for grain especially if it turns dry. Mark the spot and return in Sept.
I see that effect on alfalfa seedings too which is why I plant thicker than what is needed for final population. The competition between plants promotes fast growing forage production with delayed blooming IMHO.
