I agree, you have to get to the pump somehow, usually with a pickup. Solder a few fittings on top of a fruit jar, hook one end to the intake of your pickup and the other to the pump, when the water is about half full in the fruit jar, kick the pump in gear.

Also, you must have a shutoff valve on the intake side so you don't suck water into your engine.
