The absolute last thing i would do is till it, seems like you can fight sod/roots all summer and never win. Are you sure something will plug up? If stuff is really thick I like to plant first then kill it, leaving it standing as much as possible helps. Another idea that is outside the box is to round bale it off and dispose of properly. I have even windrowed heavy stuff, planted a pass then used forage chopper to blow it onto planted ground and progressed across field that way.
