Montpelier Indiana | Years ago, my mom made apple cake and a sauce to pour over it.
One morning after making this cake & sauce, she made pancakes for breakfast not realizing we were out of maple syrup. So she decided to try her sauce she had made for the apple cake.
Needless to say the sauce was better than any maple syrup you can buy.
By the way, this has been a secret family recipe for 53 years.
But since my mom has passed, I don't think she would mind if I shared it with you.
Mix 1 cup of brown sugar
1 heaping tbl. spoon flour
mixing well
Add 1 cup of water
Now put on burner med. heat-add
1/4 stick butter (the real stuff)
1 tsp vanilla
bring to a boil and let thicken.
It's the best darn pancake syrup I've ever eaten!
Oh by the way, it's really good on apple cake too.
PS: Lots cheaper than the real maple syrup and our grandkids ask for it every time they are here!!!
