Subject: millipedes in corn?

IL
Scouted fields today, and found an area that looks like it was hit by millipedes. The little critters were dark brown, segemented, with legs. At first I thought wireworm, but the legs cancelled that. They can really move fast to get away from the sun. At one kernal, I found at least a half dozen boring it out. This was a small area, and I think most of the rest of the corn, is growing out of it, not needing the kernal anymore.

This has to be the most difficult year to get corn out out of the ground. Finally some heat, but now is baking the ground hard
