Subject: Re: HID Conversion Flickering

I think there is a pretty good current draw to get them started (like a flourescent) which causes the voltage to drop. The small resistance in the wiring, a little low on the alternator voltage and/or capacity could lead to this. When I first installed HID's on the headlights and upper cab lights they seemed to be able to come on at the same time. After connecting the 32 monitors, gameboys, telephones, TV's and laser canon in my cab I have enough voltage drop that once in a while only one set lights. Fortunately I have the headlights on the hi beam circuit so they can be started separately. I might have more issues when I install HID's on the rear lamps . I could install a separate switch or bring a heavy wire from the battery and use the lighting circuit to run a relay. If we get done with the sprayer boom change over and it doesn't get dry enough to finish beans I might start in on the rear lamps. I still have the parts to do the 9170 and hope to take some pics and post it on the hid blog (if someone hasn't done it yet).

thanks,

Pat
