Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | It is my personal opinion (after having driven a few) that Detroit's claim to have more hp on cruise than on foot throttle is a HUGE pile of horse manure. Depending on the age of the Detroit, I would rather have a Cat or Cummins. However, beginning in about 1998 or so Detroit finally got their torque numbers up to a respectable level. Earlier than that they were deathly afraid of hills. But that's just my opinion based on my experience. Most of the Detroits I have driven were in 9400 Internationals with either 9 or 10 speeds with 4:11 rear ends. High gear in each was 27% overdrive and one gear down was direct. I drove 4 or 5 different Detroits of the pre-98 vintage and never found one that had any low end torque. JMO |
