| There is a lot of freeways out west here that have culverts put in them just for the purpose of cattle movement under them. I know of one that was sized to fit a small team of horses & wagon. The rancher fed his cattle with a one horse wagon, he would let cattle follow him under the freeway, then feed on the other side. We have three under ground passages made just for cattle on I-84 here. The road department also made them big enough to drive a two ton truck thru them at the time. The cattle had trail rights in those three spots before the freeway.
Just a few weeks ago in the Salt Lake area of Utah, a cow wandered into a culvert under a main road, she couldn't back up. They had to tear part of the road up and lift her out with a crane to save her. I don't know who had to pay that bill, I'm betting the state road dept. had to. | |
