Subject: Update on JD 1770 trash issue

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
Had four guys out yesterday to check out my trash problem with my JD 1770 with Promax 40 plates. I posted a couple of days ago about having problems getting trash in the meter and the seed sensor counting trash.
jdchevy25 was right about the trash coming in on the bottom side of the meter AND quite possibly UP the seed tube. After removing the meters I had a few rows actually have pieces of straw in the seed tubes.
The fix was duct tape along the rubber bottom seal and along the bottom of the meter.
I'm also realizing that these sensors are affected by sunlight. Taping up the bottom seal blocks alot of that out.
I was running around 14 for vacuum. I think with smaller seed I will run less from now on. Holding the seed on the plate does not appear to be a problem with less vac.
Dust coming up the seed tube would also explain why population readings from tail winds are higher than at other time. I hope Precision gets their new sensors out next year that won't be affected by dust and debris.
