Subject: Re: Notill question

Martinsville, Ohio
My experience:

1. After 2 days of good uptake I can start planting. Some use a rule of 2 nights over 50 degrees for glyphosate uptake, sun and warm daytime temps help as you know.

2. If you catch it tacky without leaving prints which be easy this year, yes you can. When I have to use down pressure, I missed the advantage of the planter setup. Hard ground requiring a coulter signals lots of soil problems I have worked hard to avoid.

If it is really heavy clay and that poorly drained, this is where the reduced RID tire and Keeton help. I like the drag chain behind the spiked closing wheels. If you have to let it get dry and hard to the seed trench, coulter or down pressure may be necessary. Just some weight on the row unit can make it penetrate without either, like a concrete block or sack of seed or whatever in the insecticide boxes for example.

Good luck Bob.
