Central Missouri | Tom, my father claims that piece of equipment. If I had my way I would replace it with a Salford. We are in a soil type that has very poor internal drainage. The infiltration rate of our topsoil is .6-2" per hour just below that like 6" is our clay subsoil with an infiltration rate of .06-.3" per hour. If we don't lightly work our doublecrop bean residue the corn would never get planted as the ground wouldn't dry in 70% of the years. I much prefer the Salford but still disc about an inch deep in the fall after d/c soybeans to get the ground to dry in the spring. It leaves approx 70% residue and incorporates the poultry litter. | |
